Tobruk is a port city on Libya's eastern Mediterranean coast, near the border with Egypt.
The city is surrounded by desert with many cliffs to the south, forming a physical barrier between the north and south of Libya in the Tobruk area.
Tobruk is known for the siege of Tobruk, a confrontation that lasted 240 days between Axis and Allied forces in North Africa during the Western Desert Campaign of the Second World War.

Nine airlines are now providing limited flights from the Tripoli International Airport to regional international destinations. Libyan Airlines and Afriqiyah Airways are providing flights to Benghazi from Tripoli, however all Libyan Airlines operations are uncertain.
